Currently #amwatching American Strays (1996), directed by Michael Covert. It's got quite the cast. A lot of people who have become famous since. It's kind of a comedy with a criminal twist or two. A trio of storylines eventually converge, somewhere in the Southwest. #film Oh, and this is another one of those early Minnesota DVD transfers so it's a miracle it's not bitrotted out.
Tonight: watching the 1948 film “Corridor of Mirrors.” Really enjoying the nocturnal vibe so far, but especially this moment here. Some real dark magic.

Now #amwatching Dance with the Devil (1997) otherwise known as Perdita Durango, directed by Álex de la Iglesia, starring Rosie Perez and Javier Bardem. Another noir, this time less legal mess than crime drama. So nice to see Perez in a leading role.
I #amwatching Naked Lie (1989) starring Victoria Principal. I believe this is a TV movie. It's got that kind of daytime noir soundtrack. Principal plays the DA in charge of prosecuting a pimp who was framed by the judge she's sleeping with as a murderer. Same judge is in charge of the framed man's trial. Complex enough for ya? And Principal's incentivized to be clueless. #film
Currently #amwatching Wisegirls (2002), directed by David Anspaugh, starring Mira Sorvino, Mariah Carey and Melora Walters. No, they don't become mobsters. That's another #movie you were probably thinking of. Evidently this ended up on HBO and Cinemax rather than in the theaters so who the hell knows if it was successful? It's not bad though. #film
Welp folks, I #amwatching Love and a 45 (1994) an indie crime #film starring Gil Bellows, Renee Zellweger, Jeffrey Combs and Peter Fonda. It seems so far like it's a product of its time.
While scrolling around looking for something to watch, Netflix told me that Arrival was leaving (heh!) at the end of September so now I'm watching what is possibly my favourite film for the millionth time because it would be rude not to. Do yourself a favour if you've never seen it. #movies #films #AmWatching
Hello, I currently #amwatching The Glenn Miller Story (1954), directed by Anthony Mann, starring Jimmy Stewart, June Allyson, Harry Morgan, various other stars and HUGE MUSICAL TALENT. And I think I've just come to the good part musically. Haven't seen this for years, and never projected onto my wall. I'm actually psyched, watching the birth of the American Songbook. #film #music
I #amwatching On Chesil Beach (2017), written by Ian McEwan and directed by Dominic Cooke, starring Saoirse Ronan and Billy Howe. I have never seen a more awkward, self-conscious young couple. Neurotic, punitive, they deserve each other and it's hard to watch them hurt. #film
Just watched Spy Kids: All the Time in the World (2011) and currently #amwatching The Last American Virgin (1982). The soundtrack for the latter film is like listening to the radio from 1982. Shudder. Also, teen angst. Double shudder.
And now I #amwatching Les Filles ne savent pas nager (2000), a French coming of age #film directed and co-written by Anne-Sophie Birot. Apart from that, I know little about it.
Currently #amwatching Air (2015), directed by Christian Cantamessa, starring Norman Reedus and Djimon Honsou as two men whose job is to keep a bunch of cryogenically preserved people alive in a bunker until biologically poisoned surface is habitable again. They're resuscitated themselves for a few hours every year or something. They don't know how true what they were told is, and their personalities are such that when problems come up, there's friction. No spoilers. #film
I #amwatching (starting) My Blue Heaven (1990), directed by Herbert Ross, script written by Nora Ephrom, starring Steve Martin, Joan Cusack and Rick Moranis, among other potent notables. I've seen it a few times and it's just what I need to see again right now, after watching the 2nd DVD of the first series of The Gulf, which I discussed last night. The end of that DVD was pretty damn heavy. So, here we go. #film
I currently #amwatching Emma (1996) directed by Douglas McGrath, and starring a lot of wonderful English actors and also Gwyneth Paltrow, playing the cupid character Emma in this light romantic farce. Previous to this I watched the first of two DVDs of The Gulf (2019), a New Zealand crime series, of which I have Series 1. Confusing. The detective in charge just came out of a coma after a bad car accident that killed her husband, and is trying to solve Crimes. While taking lots of drugs. So. #tv #nz #film #television #umm

Tonight I #amwatching a French #film from 1981, Beau Pere. It's one of the B-movies I got at a garage sale a few days ago. It's controversial, and sad, and I don't believe its tragic soundtrack for a second. 14 year old French girls don't throw themselves at their dead mothers' lovers. Not on film, and not in life.
I earlier watched Floundering (1994), an indie comedy directed by Peter McCarthy. It's very 1994. It reminds me of Repo Man, Slacker, and a few other LeGros indies. LeGros plays the main character. I think this particular DVD is one of the first independently produced DVDs so it's probably one of a thousand pressed. Very rare. I kind of cut my teeth on indies of this vintage, as a #film guy.
I'm also finishing season one of Jack Ryan, which I mentioned starting yesterday. It's an 8 ep season so pretty easy, but full of death and compromising government stuff. #amwatching
Currently #amwatching the first DVD of the first season of John Clancy's Jack Ryan. John Krasinski and Wendell Pierce star, and an assortment of very talented talent co-stars. It's an intelligence thriller show, so.
Currently #amwatching The Great Los Angeles Earthquake (1990), a NBC made for TV #movie that is in the tradition of and has the soundtrack of movies 15 years older. It's a 70s disaster movie. Featuring Joanna Kerns as the scientist hero, and Ed Begley Jr as her assistant. Lots of 80s character actors. And it opens with a shock, and a kiss or two. #film
Currently #amwatching the end of Basic (2003), directed by John McTiernan, starring John Travolta, Connie Nielsen, and Samuel L. Jackson. Nielsen is trying to put together what happened during a "training exercise" that may be a drug operation, corrupt as hell, or something else. Travolta and everyone she talks to is either helping her or hindering her, or just flat out lying. It did not do good box office. "Too complex" the reviewers said. But by today's conspiracy theory standards, the #film is as simple as pie. Think I'll watch a comedy next.
OK guys, I'm about to start #amwatching Moonfall (2022), directed by Roland Emmerich, a science fiction disaster of a #film at the COVID box office. It was described by a Rotten Tomatoes reviewer as "B movie cheese" and by star John Bradley as "batshit crazy." So I've been putting off watching it, but tonight's the night. Boo-ya.
