It's appropriate to feel some nostalgia as the old year fades into oblivion. What I am feeling tonight, however, is not ordinary nostalgia. To a certainty, whatever the next year holds, it will be neither ordinary nor comforting. To commemorate it all, I am re-watching #OliverStone's #Platoon. It perfectly explains why, whenever I hear #liberals talk grandiloquent about preserving #AmericanDemocracy, it makes me want to vomit. /3

#Codependency is to sign on to a mutual construct of lies, while telling ourselves that it is beneficial, meaningful & true. It's a house of cards based on guilt trips & manipulation, not unlike #AmericanDemocracy. It's inauthentic, not unlike like #SocialMedia, wherein we're expected to follow someone if we're followed or otherwise enter into codependent lies of every kind without actually seeing them as lies until we finally do, after which we freak out, while always blaming someone else.

The truth is that #Americandemocracy is essentially broken beyond fixing and is unable to withstand a #right-wing #populist movement determined to destroy it. It will take multiple miracles to avoid getting one or more of the “bad” endings in this Choose Your Own Adventure of #dystopias. The best realistic case resembles a #JimCrow America from the 1920s, complete with a #GildedAge, #massmigration, #violentmilitias running amok, and #no-go zones for #minorities.

The emergence of cable TV and the decline in newspaper readership set in motion the destruction of “common understanding of facts.” And social media finished the job of completely demolishing “the common understanding of FACTS.”

#EconomicConcentration and the erosion of #AmericanDemocracy are the two faces of the same coin. Disappearance of small shops, smaller supermarket chains, local newspapers, small producers and farmers, and on and on. Companies at the top of the pyramid and their billionaire owners are by definition globalists. It’s ironic that these billionaires hire people like Steve Bannon to rile up the masses against “globalists.”

The US might have narrowly escaped the takeover of the Congress by those who want to turn it into a hybrid regime of theocracy and plutocracy, but the threat is still alive. The US badly needs more safeguards to protect its democracy. A difficult task when the Supreme Court has already been captured by religious zealots. Since the GOP is likely to control the House, time is running out.
