@ironick17 @jeffreyhoward … that echoes DuBois’s theory of black society in his 2nd autobiography (1937). I’m also really fascinated with the more cognitive stuff, so that’s where I get to Peirce and James, and some of Dewey’s middle works (e.g., “How We Think”) and Dewey’s engagement with evolutionary theory. This is also where I bring in George H. Mead, whom I consider a Pragmatist (student of James, I believe?) but he’s often left off the list. 3 of 4

@ironick17 @jeffreyhoward After grad school, inspired by Cornell West’s history of pragmatism, I branched out. I love Jane Addams and WEB DuBois as well. There’s also a Rabbi (Mordechai Kaplan) who isn’t often credited as a pragmatist but studied under Dewey at Columbia and wrote an amazing book about modern Jews that is fully pragmatic theory of immigration, multiculturalism, and minority groups … 2 of 4

@ironick17 @jeffreyhoward I struggle to choose, but those early folks really grab me. I read all of Dewey’s “late period” works (I think what most philosophers consider his “mature” work) in graduate school; and have since read a lot of James. 1 of 4
