Most people misunderstand #gratitude and #regret, wrongly thinking that one cancels out the other. But according to #AncientResearch, they live side by side. You can appreciate what you have and still lament what you've lost or never gained — even at the same time.

E.g., Adam Grant just told millions of people that a key to #happiness is to spend less time lamenting. It doesn't work that way.

"A sad generation with happy photographs" is how one young woman recently described herself to me. With happy #Thanksgiving photographs headed everyone's way, it seems particularly relevant.

How did we get here?

I don't believe the usual trite answer that the cause is social media. Rather, I think the core problem is that we've forgotten the lessons of the past. That's what drives me to explore #ancient #wisdom.

#Etymology is one of the biggest #translation traps when it comes to understanding a #language.

For example, "jail" and "prison" are near #synonyms but "jailer" and prisoner" are near #opposites.
