#Celtic #LegendaryWednesday: The footholder of the #Welsh king/underworld god #Math was raped by Gilvaethwy. He and his brother Gwyddion were enchanted into animals as punishment for three years. First, as stag and hind, they had to give birth to a hind calf and deliver it to Math, then as boar and sow a piglet, and finally as wolf and she-wolf a pup. Afterwards, again in human form, Gwyddion, god of science and son of the mother goddess Dana, and Gilvaethwy proposed to their uncle #Math their sister #Arianrhod as the new footholder.

So hat er wahrscheinlich ohne Widerstand sein Leben hingegeben, damit die Menschen, für deren Wohlergehen er sich verantwortlich fühlte, nach seinem Tod nicht mehr hungern mussten. Warum hätte er sein Volk darben lassen sollen, wenn auf ihn die Freuden in der #Anderswelt und die #Wiedergeburt warteten?
Am Gipfel von #Croghan Hill wurde der König von den #Druiden gekrönt und an seinem Fuß in einem Moor geopfert, denn hier waren sie den Göttern der Unterwelt besonders nah.“
