Something I've come to realize seems to be a common feature on Smart TV's (at least Android based ones. My Sony Bravia from 2016 seems to have it) is a 'Display Off' function. Sounds like it would be an odd feature, maybe niche at best, but I think it's kinda smart personally.

You've basically got an Android system bolted on to the TV. You can just as easily run some audio only apps on it. Attached to a good audio system, it's not a bad music player either. Being able to shut off the display itself but keep the rest of it running is nice for power usage but also wear on the panel too.

How hard would it be NOT to bury the RESTART option deep in menus, but instead be real and place it as an easily accessed top home screen option which doesn't evade baffled pensioners whose devices are playing up, or take a ridiculous number of clicks to get to?

It shipped with the horror that is #YouView and, as part of the contract, iPlayer and the other terrestrial streamers are blocked in the Google Play store. 😡

TV doesn’t have an aerial so can’t even turn on YouView to get to it that way.

Will try Chromecast. Maybe that will get around it.
