The infamous chicken jungle.

That is, the jungle in the chicken enclosure, behind the coop. The front where we feed them is all scratched away by claws, but this is where they like to play hide & seek.

These are horseradishes that are growing like crazy fertilized by all that nice 💩.

It's actually tidier now because I got annoyed at the nettles and smashed most of them with a plank. The compost at the far end was difficult to get to!

The dog as "man's best friend" has a long history going back to the ages long before the civilization of ancient Egypt was established but the Egyptians were among the earliest people to recognize the value of the dog and show their appreciation for its particular skills and talents. worldhistory.org/article/1031/

Animal Husbandry is commonly defined as a branch of agriculture dealing with the domestication, breeding, and rearing of animals for various purposes including labor (as in the case of large animals), a food source, protection, and companionship (as with dogs, primarily), and a source of material goods such as hides and bones, used for clothing and tools. worldhistory.org/Animal_Husban

Fun chicken facts:

- Chickens only have one butthole (cloaca), for everything: pooping, peeing, mating and laying eggs
- Cocks have no ... cock. Only another cloaca
- Mating happens by squeezing their cloacas together briefly and squirting some sperm over
- Sperm is viable at body temperature, therefore no need for external testicles
- And it stays viable inside the chickens body after mating for up to two weeks

Calling all and experts: Any thoughts on precisely what kind of animal bit this is? It certainly resembles horse bits illustrated in Ivor Noel Hume’s book, but the proportions seem off. Are there other types of bit that I should check? Any sources you have would be greatly appreciated. About 5 inches at its tallest point, but I’ll add precise measurements later. Please circulate.

The Debate Between Sheep and Grain (c. 2000 BCE) is one of the best-known Sumerian literary debates in a genre that was popular entertainment by the late 3rd millennium BCE. In this piece, personifications of grain and sheep argue which is more important, with grain judged the winner because sheep need grain, but grain needs no sheep. worldhistory.org/article/2122/

Anyone want a nerdy deep-dive into how to update your animal care and husbandry task tracking? I have a new system that is cheap, super flexible, remotely checkable, and strangely fun.

Check it out here! doi.org/10.26451/abc.09.04.05.
