We are asking that all participants wear masks while gathered indoors; however, we do not have full control over some locations used by the book fair and unmasked members of the public may be present.

To mourn for what could have been.

RIA aka Anarchy2023 in St-Imier could have easily been organized in a COVID-safe manner.

Some recent anarchist gatherings and book fairs have managed to do so (Montreal, IWW Northern Ireland). And even many recent non-anarchist gatherings have managed to do so (FOSSY, readercon etc.).

I tried to fight for a COVID-safe organization.
But i failed.
Probably i was too desperate, too angry, too impatient, too undiplomatic.

Probably i was too hurt. Hurt because i knew what would have been possible.
Easily.

(Probably other people tried to fight for this as well. But i wouldn't know, because i was kept out of the loop)

I really wanted to be a part of this. I really wanted to participate.

But i really don't want to beg for consideration and solidarity any more (see bellow).

So all that is left is to mourn.

To mourn for what could have been.

[PS: I am aware, that the gathering received a donation of 15'000 masks, but there is still no mask-consensus. It therefore remains too risky for people like myself (immuno-compromised, chronically ill, disabled) to attend.

And i am aware that they have soap in every room. I mean... LOL

I am also aware, that immuno-compromised people can contact the care-team and then this will get communicated in the rooms they plan to visit.

But that is not solidarity. That is conditional solidarity. It is solidarity with an if/then loop, one that shifts the responsibility to ask for solidarity to those who need the protection.

And frankly, i am (we are?) tired of having to beg. Solidarity should be a given in anarchist circles.

#Rant incoming.

See, here's the thing about saying "I don't see color." A lot of other people do.

That's great that you supposedly try to see each individual you meet as fully human and valid where they stand, but you must recognize that Black people, people of color, and all the other things (disabled, gay, trans, nonbinary, fat, poor, Muslim, etc.) move through a different world than you do. They move through a world that directly discriminates against them and makes life harder in ways you cannot even begin to imagine if you are not those things.

The question I have for you then is: Do you want to continue to be part of making life difficult for others (by dismissing their experiences with a blithe "I don't see color"), or do you want to be part of decreasing and eliminating #bigotry every chance you get?

I earnestly urge you, if you want to continue to think so highly of yourself, to consider the latter. Right now. Because right now there are millions of people living with the consequences of decisions by those benefiting from prejudice and worldwide entrenched systems, the ones who DO see color and act on this vision with hatred and bigotry.

Start seeing it.

Since I am #disabled with #autoimmune bullshit (#spondy, #spondyloarthritis , and #lupus / #borderlinelupus) I am very interested in #ArtAction , #artactivism, and #musicactivism (that I can do from home.)

My background is in #finearts and I love every single #crafting / #craft / #maker activity out there. Right now I’m obsessed with #procreate and #sewing. I’m also a layperson #herbalist and #gardener.

I have learned that I am happiest as a #catparent with exactly #4cats in the house (which I currently have.)

I’m pretty sure identity is super fluid, so it feels funny putting up labels, but I am also #demisexual, #witchy, #neurodivergent, #homebody. I love #tea, #starwars, #surrealism and #dadaism, and my excellent partner. I have a high tolerance for #weird.
