Boom, a hit for “SQL Antipatterns” on one of my applications. Antipattern “naive trees” came about because I am cataloguing documents that can incorporate others. With print sets for computers, the top level set is typically an assembly of parts, but some of these parts are also assemblies. My naive first approach was parent_id (“this is part of assembly ...”) but how to find all parts of a top assembly? Ugh. My solution should be a “closure table,” I think. Fascinating. #sql #antipattern
