Considering going off antidepressants? Here’s what to think about first
Stopping antidepressants abruptly, especially after a long period of use, will make most people – although not everyone – unwell. It’s impossible to tell in advance who will be affected, so slow dose reduction is advisable.
Stopping antidepressants (or tapering down the dose) too rapidly can cause antidepressant discontinuation syndrome in around 20% of people.

'The study found that healthy volunteers became less responsive to positive and negative feedback after taking a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) drug for three weeks.
'The “blunting” of negative emotions could be part of how the drugs help people recover from depression, but could also explain a common side-effect'

Not entirely surprising for those of us who have been taking #ssri #antidepressants for a while but good to have it confirmed I guess. I hope it doesn’t put anyone off taking them, though. Why don’t #antidepressants work for #depression in #dementia?
1/4 of patients with dementia are prescribed an antidepressant, yet there is no evidence of therapeutic efficacy.
Check out our (@ProfRobHoward @jonroiser) new review where we discuss why.
