It`s interesting to note that #Irelandâs two most legendary heroes were both taught their warrior skills by women. #CĂșChulain travelled to the home of #Scathach, a female teacher of the battle arts, who lived on an island off the coast of #Scotland. âHer fame had spread far and wide, and many came to her to study and hone their military skills. She had, however, made an enemy in the form of #Aoife, her sister. On one occasion, CĂșChulain took Scathachâs place in a contest of single combat against Aoife, seemingly unfazed at the prospect of fighting a woman.â

#Aoife transformed the #ChildrenOfLir into swans, cursing them to remain so for 900 years. Even the magic of her foster father Bodb Derg was not enough to undo the damageâalthough he turned his foster daughter into a demon of the air (in some versions, a crane) in retaliation for her action. But the Children of Lir were left as swans with human emotions and human voices to sing of their woes.

#CĂșChulainn underwent perfection training in weaponry with the famous warrioress #ScĂĄthach in #Scotland. Despite a promise of chastity to his bride #Emer, #CĂșChulainn impregnated #ScĂĄthach's sister #Aoife there. From this sprang #Conla. When the latter had grown into a "little naughty boy", #CĂșChulainn had to kill him to preserve his honor. A prohibition forbade the greatest hero of #Ulster not only to refuse the duel, but also to be represented by another warrior.

#Celtic #Mythology: #Cuchulainn and #Emer were a childless couple. Since Emer`s father, #Forgall Manach, wanted to prevent the union of the two, he secretly initiated #CĂșChulainn to undergo perfection training in weaponry with the famous warrior #ScĂĄthach in #Scotland. The Lord of Luglochta Logo hoped the rigors would overwhelm the hero of #Ulster and he would be killed. Despite a promise of chastity to #Emer, #CĂșChulainn impregnated #ScĂĄthach's sister #Aoife there.
Possibly #Cuchulainn and #Emer would not have remained childless if in their wedding night the king of #Ulster had not exercised his "right of the first night". While #Conchobar mac Nessa feared # CĂșChulain`s reaction, he would have lost his authority if he had renounced his privilege. To preserve #Emer's virginity, #Conchobar shared the bed with #Cuchulainn's wife on her wedding night, but the #druid #Cathbad slept between them.

#Celtic #Mythology: #Aoife was jealous of her fostersister #Aeb, who got #Lir as a husband before her, although #Aoife loved this king dearly. And then #Aeb gave birth to the lovely #ChildrenofLir while the jealous #Aoife was barren.
#Aoife could not bring herself to kill her husband's children, such as she could not have with him because of her infertility. She transformed the #ChildrenofLir into beautiful swans and left them their melodious voices.
Enchanted by Bodb Derg into an air demon, #Aoife watched over the fate of the #ChildrenofLir from the shadows.

The #ChildrenofLir, Fionnula, Fiachra, Aodh and Conn, were turned into swans by their stepmother #Aoife out of jealousy. They had to live on Lough Derravaragh, in the Straits of Moyle and on Inishglora for 300 years each.
Aoife was jealous of her fostersister #Aeb, who got #Lir as a husband, although Aoife loved this king dearly. And then #Aeb gave birth to the lovely Children of Lir while Aoife was barren.
Aoife was also jealous of the Children of Lir because her husband loved them more than her. She became ill with jealousy, which put her in the sickbed for a year. During this time, the plan to get rid of the children, that she loved like her own, developed.
Aoife didn't have the heart to kill the Children of Lir. She turned them into beautiful swans and left them their melodious voices.
