Thoughts with colleagues at Te Herenga Waka-Victoria University, where 10% of the workforce has been laid off.

Pretty unthinkable, as Rewi Newnham points out, losses of this magnitude in any other sector would be front page news.

@stojg At my citizenship ceremony, I was somewhat amused by the requirement for me to pledge my allegiance to the queen of the country I'd left 6 years previous in order to emigrate to .

Shout out to who got his citizenship on the same day and broke the 'no speeches' rule with a quick joke and a smile, saying something like "It's about time I went legal!"

Tired from travels, work and a restless night, I surfaced a while back to hear my beloved call out 'A postcard is here!'. It is my first and I will now read it at my leisure with the first coffee of the day in my hand.

The wonderful view that greeted me as I filled the jug at the kitchen window earlier. If my compass bearing is correct, this beauty was centred somewhere over your 's neck of the woods, @billbennett.

Looking north-east from our deck on the North Shore around 5.30pm this evening. Pink/peach clouds contrasted against pale blue dusk sky and darker white/grey clouds above the dark silhouette of hedge and chimney top.

Just because we live in a small country in a remote corner of the world doesn't mean we won't be affected by this. You just have to look at how much the rapid rise of misinformation has already changed our social fabric for the worse in a very short time i.e. three years. Be ready!

Countdown to our boy jetting off to tomorrow. Still making lists & checking things off. She'll be right. Poor Flo's in a right state.

What's $130NZ like as a weekly budget in these days?

@NeilH @PrehistoricSociety @tess_machling I’m attracted to the in part because that tight cluster of studs is usually interpreted as being the Pleiades. Matariki/the Pleiades are also important half a world from where the disc was found, here in where we’ve recently adopted the celebration of their first rising in our midwinter as a national public holiday.

Geoff Cochrane, Wellington poet, gone too soon:

Confabulations

The moon’s a fawn balloon
from the gondola of which
a Pharaoh and his five astrologers
survey the ink-blue seas.

Once upon a time,
I lived in a pluvial gorge.
My dim, dripping workshop
would seem to have been a place
of mushrooms and clockwork,
but what was I busy inventing if not myself?
