This might be a dumb question and I am not ashamed. We witnessed the fall of #Apollo for #Reddit. Sad but it happened.

Why is it that some other mobile apps still continue to work? Is it because they don't have as large user bases? Is there a free API call limit? Or is the API paywall just not active yet?

Explain pls.

I’ve been a #reddit user for 8 years. In the spirit of supporting things I use, I paid for Reddit Premium for most of that time.

Reddit’s API changes were a slap in the face, and my chosen iOS app (#apollo) was leaving because of it. I started pruning my account. I’ve deleted all but one post, and I’ve deleted all of my comments. I started that a month ago, and kept checking back because I’d heard that deleted items were reappearing. And they did! Not all of them, but some. I’m not sure if that was due to broken infrastructure or something malicious, but I kept deleting until things stayed gone.

My Premium subscription runs out on July 11, 2023. On July 12, 2023, I am deleting my account. I’ve already deleted my iOS app and I’ve deleted all of my saved bookmarks. I’m only a single user and my subscription contributed very little to Reddit’s bottom line, but they can no longer have it.

The most eloquently way I can say this is: Fuck you, Reddit. We’re done

@xdd @sherold @wefwef It’s heavily inspired by #Apollo which had to close due to Reddit’s API changes. The UI looks nearly the same, just missing some QOL features.
