No place for Elephants

Elephants have been around for 15 million years. Humans aren't even half that age.
In the 1970s there were 1.3 million elephants in Africa.
In 2006, according to the IUCN, there were around 500,000.
In 2016, the number shrank to 415,000.
Reasons:
Trophy hunting and poaching for ivory and bushmeat.

Humanity has passed the 8 billion mark these days.

Seit 1995 ist das Flusspferd auf Anhang II gelistet. Wilderei, Jagd, unkontrollierter Handel und Habitat-Zerstörung haben dennoch zu >30% Bestandsrückgängen geführt.
10 afrikanische Länder beantragen @CITESCoP19 den Schutzstatus für zu erhöhen.
