How to Enable AppImage Support in Ubuntu 23.04
If you’re an avid user of AppImages wondering why they don’t appear to work in Ubuntu 23.04, I’ve got you covered. But maybe you don’t know there was an issue? On earlier versions of Ubuntu you download an .appimage, mark it executable (i.e. give it permission to run through the file manager’s Properties dialog), then double-click on it to open it. The app appears, you use it, everyone’s happy. In Ubuntu 23.04 you can’t do that. Lest anyone’s face redden, the reason why they don’t work is not down to any kind of ideological-imposed limitation. Rather, Ubuntu 23.04 uses a :sys_more_orange:

Tidal-HiFi is the Best App for Streaming Tidal Music on Linux
Let me preface this post by stating, somewhat cheekily, that I would rather not use Electron apps where possible. But, in the face of no alternative I can suck it up and make use of ’em 😉. And so it is with Tidal-hifi, an Electron-based (I know, I know) app that is, to my knowledge, the easiest way to stream music from TIDAL on Linux in the service’s Hi-Fi quality (hence the hi-fi name – and TIDAL? That’s the last time I’m capitalising you). Now, ‘easiest’ is an important qualifier in the sentence you just read as there are other :sys_more_orange:

An App to Control Your Elgato Key Lights on Linux
I have a set of Elgato lights that I use for filming and they’re very nice. The only problem is that I can only control the brightness and colour temperature on Windows or macOS (or Android and iOS) as those are the only platforms the official Elgato Control Centre software supports. But open source software to the rescue. Keylight Control is billed as “a Linux compatible application for controlling the Elgato Key Lights” and—shock—that’s exactly what it is. As it’s distributed as an .appimage it will (in theory) work on pretty much any Linux distro out there. I took it :sys_more_orange:
