I pay for it so I can read a variety of news in a nice interface without interrupty ads. I don't want Apple News itself enshitiffying my experience with sports related popups that steal focus and take me away from the article I was just reading when I try to dismiss them.
Even if I cared about sports I would not want this experience. If there is important sports news, I will find out about it when my neighbors set off fireworks at the bottom of the street.
No other area of news does this. No one is shoving finance of fashion at me with popups.
Whose goddamn OKR is it to increase the Sports engagement and can someone tell them it's destroying the value of the rest of the service? A service I am willing to and do pay for, so please stop fucking it up.
