31 followers · 122 posts · Server mastodon.uno...e così il team di #Asahi #Linux è stato in grado (facendo reverse engineering e senza alcuna collaborazione da parte di #Apple) non solo di produrre un driver grafico perfettamente funzionante per le GPU dei SOC #AppleSilicon (famiglia #M1 ed #M2) ma addirittura di ottenere la certificazione OpenGL ES, che garantisce una piena compatibilità delle applicazioni che usano questo sistema (certificazione che apple stessa non è riuscita finora ad ottenere per macos). 🤯

@Natanox yeah, IDK the exact details but I'm convinced the #ARM64/ "#AppleSilicon"-based #MacBook|s are way locked down and I'm not even shure there are means to crack their security known outside of Apple...
They shurely have some means to reset it into "Vendor" or "Factory Reset" but I'd not be surprised if that's some kid of "Jig" [similar to the #PS3] and has actual crpytography to authenticate, so it's not like some simple DFU mode...

There's a reason #Transmeta literally did design their chips to emulate #amd64 & #ix86 with an architecture that isn't an #ISA a OS can even directly utilize.
That being said, I'm confident that #ARM / #ARM64 will be a stepping stone till #RISCV is mature enough to become mainstream (i.e. 20 Years) and cheap $10 #FPGAs allow running one at a performance that is on-par to then current #AppleSilicon SoCs and faster than any current-day #AMD64 can be.

And: I didn't remember that it was so hard in #macOS, getting #Eclipse to recognize a local running #ssh agent. But at no point in time I spent a serious thought on switching to a windows vm. 😅👍🏻
