RT by @thegrugq: An extraordinary c. 500,000-300,00 year-old Acheulean handaxe knapped around a fossil shell. The shell’s central display suggests an aesthetic intention by the toolmaker. From West Tofts, Norfolk.

RT by @thegrugq: Ancient evidence of a sore loser at board-games? 😂

About 1,000 years ago, this beautifully carved ‘tables’ game was smashed up with an axe and thrown into Gloucester Castle’s rubbish pit!😳 Excavated in 1983, it’s the world’s oldest surviving complete tables set.

"The Parthenon is really astonishing in its silent composure; which is so vigorous that, far from being decayed, the Parthenon appears, on the contrary, likely to outlast the entire world."
