#WritersCoffeeClub 1: Intro/Shameless Self Promotion

Ahoy! I'm Finn - I'm a disabled transmasc butch writing SFF in the North of the UK (I'm also a LARPer, a prop builder, a fencer, and an erstwhile fire juggler [though hoping to get back into that sometime soon]).

#WritingWonders 1: Intro day. If you could hang out with one of your side characters for a day, who would you choose? Why?

I'd probably pick Anneke, because a) I'd love to talk religion with them, and b) we'd probably just end up infodumping at each other all day, given their general tendency to talk the ears off anyone who stands still long enough XD

#WritingWonders 24: What's a common occurrence in your story that would be odd here?

I mean, the easy one is that people in our world don't generally tend to turn into wolves on a regular basis (at least, as far as I'm aware).

In the world of #ArgentumInAqua werewolves and vampires live alongside humans as part of multiple societies, so seeing wolves wandering around the streets of a major settlement is legitimately a perfectly normal part of everyday existence.

“Y’done yet?” His voice came out rougher than he intended, edges of the words catching like frayed cloth on broken glass. “Ain’t got all night.”

Archer didn’t respond. But the pressure on Sabbat’s wrist eased, just a little, and a heartbeat later he felt the vampire pull away, the snow creaking under his boots as he stepped back.

“Thank you,” Archer said, his voice so quiet it was almost a whisper. “Truly. I’m- That is- /Thank you/.“

“Fuckin’ bastards,” Sabbat snarled. He dropped the handful of ice he’d been holding to the side of his head, kicked clean snow over the bloodstains, and spat. “Ain’t their territory, an’ they know as much.”

“I get the feeling they didn’t care,” Mortimer said, poking experimentally at the side of his jaw with one finger. “I also get the feeling that punch chipped at least one of my teeth, though I realise that’s hardly the worst of our problems at the moment.”

#WritingWonders 22: Do you prefer writing the first or last chapters?

I'll let you know when I've actually written something I consider a last chapter XD

(But for serious, #ArgentumInAqua is the biggest project I've ever tackled and the last chapter of Blood on the Snow is very much a 'break for a wee bit, then back in' rather than a last-last chapter [think the last chapter of Clockwork Boys leading into the first chapter of The Wonder Engine])

I mentioned Cass in the Writing Wonders prompt today, so, for folks who're following me - here's the snippet from #ArgentumInAqua where we get a proper introduction to her (at least, the best introduction we've got so far)

She had to admit, he had a point. Especially since, unlike werewolves, humans actually felt the cold. /And I definitely didn’t forget that until just now. Spirits, you’d think growing up with a human almost-sister would’ve taught me to remember how bloody fragile they are sometimes/ “You’re right. Tomorrow?”

Or, at least, nothing visible. But Sabbat was a magician – and a sodding good one, for all half the toffs in the Order forgot that on the regular – and, back behind the visible, he felt the wards on the door flare up and then die down, turning from roaring flames to glowing embers as Verist poured his own power into the working.

/Still hot enough to burn. But low enough for us to get over the threshold before we catch more than a few scorchmarks/
