Well, it didn’t turn out to be a white savior story, which was my biggest fear.

It didn’t turn out to be a coming-of-age story, which I thought it might be.

And it didn’t turn out to be a richly-photographed visual or soundtrack-feast sonic memoir of 1980 Queens.

I’m not sure what it was. Focus was needed.

#ArmageddonTime was disappointing.

I wish Gray had read and taken inspiration from #JonathanLethem’s #TheArrest for how to tell a story with a naive and desensitized narrator.

20 minutes into #ArmageddonTime and wondering when the pace will pick up. During the dinner scene we got some insight into characters, but I don’t know where this is going. It seems self-indulgent. Favorite character is Turkletaub.

Je n’ai pas été bouleversé par #ArmageddonTime, comme j’avais été assez insensible à « La cité perdue de Z ». L’ambiance ne parvient pas à me garder dans le film. Je ne sais pas ce qui les rend différents de « Ad Astra », que j’avais adoré, ou “We own the night“, qui me fascine.

🍿 Went to see Antony Hopkins new #ArmageddonTime earlier on. It wasn’t quite as expected (or advertised, really) but a very quiet, subtle message of prejudice and privilege, and his character is lovely.

I think I wanted things to go a bit harder hitting though.

Im #Kino lieft heute in der Sneak Preview "Zeiten des Umbruchs". Hm naja. Ich hatte keinen Spaß während des Films, aber wirklich viel zum Nachdenken gibt es auch nicht. Nur viel Unbehagen bleibt.

Wäre vermutlich deutlich besser im O-Ton gewesen. Die Deutsche Synchro, gerade für den Protagonisten, war schwach. Dann wäre auch der Original-Titel #ArmageddonTime besser.
