#ArnoldKling 's *Three Languages of Politics* might help you understand where different people's politics come from. Here's a review that briefly summarises Prof. Kling's theory: https://quillette.com/2018/08/08/the-three-languages-of-politics-a-review/

@ArneBab @emacsen has previously wondered why the modern left (in #uspol and #ukpol ) has a tendency towards anti-Zionism. I proposed #ArnoldKling 's #ThreeLanguagesOfPolitics as an explanation: the left sees politics as a question of oppressor vs. oppressed; in the context of Israel, that tends to make one pro-Palestinian. Conservatives, according to Prof. Kling, see politics as civilisation vs. barbarism, so pro-Israel, anti-Hamas.

@emacsen I'm not sure that it's as simple as low-risk, high-reward.
Why do so many celebrities sympathise more with the Palestinians than the Israelis? It could just be traditional anti-semitism, in this case attaching itself to the Jewish state.
My own theory has to do with #ArnoldKling 's three languages of politics: some people view politics as a question of oppressor-oppressed. They see Israel as the strong party in the conflict and thus in the wrong.

@hhardy01 "One common criticism of the RWA scale is that it could simply be a proxy for generic conservative or religious beliefs, such as respect for tradition or a deference to religious authority."
