Ich bin kein Dev, aber ich kann sagen: Configs für Switches und Router gehörten vermutlich nicht zum Trainingsmaterial. Das hatten Clauda und ich im #Wartungsfenster mal angerissen. Die Fähigkeit, Configs z.B. für #Aruba AOS-CX oder MikroTik zu schreiben, sind echt wahnsinnig rudimentär.

I was a bit jealous that we would not be in port long enough to head out on what would be a sunset sailing trip. What is not to love about the clear turquoise water surrounding the island of Aruba! It's hard to tell that this beach was quite crowded in April. To my right it was full of people lounging in chairs under umbrellas while others were swimming and snorkeling.

While in Aruba in April we followed a winding road through fields of cacti on the way to the Alto Vista Chapel. A little way before the chapel there were white crosses marking the stations of the cross. (Note that Aruba is arid and cacti are native plants to the island)

To my surprise, the island of Aruba is extremely arid, rainfall is minimal and cacti are native plants. (Tropical plants have been brought to the island such as the non-native palm trees.) Pathways have been placed to better explore the natural rock formations and boulders. Location is the Casibari Rock Formation area. Visited April 2023

I tried to access devices on a different subnet connected to an #Aruba #InstantOn switch. Didn't work.
As it turned out, there is a feature name "Network Protection". It seemed to filter out everything from other subnets. After disabling, everything was fine.
Only took me 2 hours to figure this out 😡

Op de drie Nederlands-Caraïbische eilanden, Aruba, Bonaire en Curaçao, wordt een eigen creoolse taal gesproken, het Papiamentu (of Papiamento). Sinds de jaren rond de afschaffing van de slavernij, in 1863, worden ook de eerste teksten in deze taal gepubliceerd. Daartoe behoren verhalen, romans, gedichten, essays, pamfletten, liederen, dialogen en toneelteksten, die met weidse uitleg als 'literatuur' werden of worden aangeduid. Hierin staat centraal hoe de bewoners van de eilanden naar zichzelf, elkaar, hun belaste verleden en naar buitenstaanders uit de westerse wereld keken en kijken. Deze teksten zijn daarmee een weerspiegeling van de sentimenten en ideologieën in de eilandsamenlevingen van Aruba, Bonaire en Curaçao.

I think I figured out my issue. I think it was because of my #Ubiquiti 8 port Lite switch. The other network I was testing on had a Ubiquiti 8 port switch as well, but not from the Lite series. Connected directly to the firewall now and no issues.

I will reset the #Aruba switch tomorrow and test out the local management option to see what it can do that the cloud/app management can’t. I do wish that you could go back and forth between management types. Use the cloud/app for most functions and visibility then switch to local management when I need to do something more advanced. The whole “decide when you set it up and you only get to use that ever” solution is absolute shit and a made up thing to further separate their product lines.

I am not sure why, but this new #Aruba #InstantOn switch I got will NOT stay connected to Aruba’s cloud management. If I plop it on another network it works fine, but on my primary house network? Nah. I’m running #Sophos firewalls on both networks, but there has to be something configured differently on my home network that is getting in the way.

In the end, I don’t really care and can manage the switch locally instead of via the cloud. BUT this is also a lot of hassle for a switch…shouldn’t be this hard to get it working. Also, I was wanting to compare it to #Ubiquiti but not being able to use the cloud features makes that test pointless…

Last night we were on the balcony of the cabin and the husbear started giving giving me a footrub. I groaned loudly in pure bliss from a day walking on the island and beach. Heard giggles from next door. We grinned at each other - GenX foreplay.
