If I was bloody minded enough to start a book project (performance and policing), any thoughts on starting points beyond just writing?

I’m coming from an abandoned PhD with a seed chapter that’s already going in an edited volume I’m not sure

I want to focus on the writing process not publishing goals looking for advice from folks who completed first projects as independent scholars outside grad school

Hey, y’all! I’m a history professor @ UConn. I helped pass path breaking legislation in Connecticut to mandate #aapi studies in our state’s public schools. Now we’re working w students, teachers, community groups, and faculty to build home-grown #K-12 Asian American and Pacific Islander studies. This Spring I’ll be certifying my first group of high school educators to teach #AsianAmericanStudies.

Taught Chang-rae Lee’s On Such a Full Sea last week & showed my students Ursula K. Le Guin’s critique of the book as a “tourist” approach to dystopia that “uses essential elements of a serious genre irresponsibly, superficially.” Curious if this critique still resonates given that even more literary writers have explored dystopia in the time since.

Feels a little like the start of an academic retreat.

Hi, I'm an English professor at Boston College, specialist in #AsAmLit, #AsianAmericanStudies (or is it #AsAmSt ?). My work has also become focused on #cliimate, #environmentalhumanities, #climatefiction, and #climateliterature more broadly.

Wrote a few books, lots of editing, and shorter pieces, some of it at places like LARB, Chronicle, Washington Post, Public Books, etc.

I do a lot of admin now, which keeps me busy.
