My #sociology brain is fascinated by the political dynamics of the birdie influx, as people make strange versions of #assimilation and #antiassimilation arguments I don’t think they’d ever make in the “real” world. And parsing the power dynamics of that contradiction is tickling my curiosity. I’m also cranky that my own arrival coincided with this historic influx, as I was not on the birdie and hated it; I came to Mastodon precisely because of the kind of human-level community it offers.
