I went thru this w/my mother, who died at 101, b4 I had to put her in #assistedliving at 90.

There are lifts for stairs bit not to pick someone up off the floor.

If the person does not have the strength to pick him/herself up, someone has to do it for him/her to put him/her in a wheelchair or in bed.

If you don't have the strength to do it and/or cannot always be there, then you need to find someone who can.

That's why I had to put my other in asst living.

I’ve begun using my late mother’s lap blanket that I made for her when she lived in #AssistedLiving. This one I kept after she passed away and donated the rest to the facility. Lap blankets are perfect for use for those who need wheelchairs; they can keep warm without drowning under a bed blanket. If you ever #crochet for #charity, consider making lap blankets for our #grandparents in long-term care. Many patients don’t have enough clothes because family don’t visit and see their needs.

My mother died at 101.

I placed her in an assisted living facility (ALF) when she was 90 because she fell a couple of times and could not get up on her own.

I wish I had to ability to care for her in her final years but changing her diapers (among other things) was something that I just could not bear to do.

Kudos to you for seeing it through. You are a far better person than I had hoped to be.

An #Iowa facility specifically for those with #dementia will close Friday, while an #assistedliving facility associated with it is set to close next month, leaving 26 residents and their families with one less option and 48 #workers out of a job.
