#OTD Alice #Eastwood, Canadian-American #Botanist, is born.

At 47, she saved almost 1500 #Plant specimens from the gravely compromised Academy building after the #SanFrancisco #Earthquake in 1906. At the time, her #Botanical collection was the largest in the American West.

Days later, she joined Geologist GK Gilbert to inspect a fault trace north of Olema. The moment was forever memorialized in a captivating photo.

The #Aster (Eastwoodia elegans) is a happy tribute to Alice.
