I recently finished construction of a new #3dprinted barn door tracker. With it I want to dabble in #Astrophotograhy again, at the budget end. But it's a much better design with far less flex than the wooden one I made before.
So I'm hoping for some nice shots to share for #astrodon soon. But until then, here is my first ever astrophoto, taken with that wooden barn door tracker, so we can compare results.
I'm pretty sure everyone whose into astronomy will recognize M42.

Behold!
The Moon, Venus, and the three moons of Venus!
😁
This was my first attempt at using the expert raw app on samsung for stars. Someone switched on a light, so it wasn't as dark in the spot where I placed my camera. I can't wait to hyperlapse next. #astrophoto #Astrophotograhy

So my #Astrophotograhy talk at Carrick on Suir library for #IrishAstronomyWeek is in the local paper: just found out that the two most influential teachers I had will be in attendance!

Is it wrong to want the power to go out for an hour? I'd really like to capture the night sky without all the light pollution. Now my neighbors have installed a dusk to dawn light further hindering my fun. 🤬 Not even the editing software could remove the light wash with the extra lights.
Oh well at least the dogs enjoyed the extra trips outside.
Have a great evening everyone! I'll be up for a while, my daughter's having another sleepover so there's giggling nonstop.
Oui. C'est une comète. C/2022 E3 ZTF

Went back through my #Astrophotograhy data, and found some imaging of both M100 and M66 that I captured with my home telescope in March 2021.
These are taken from my rooftop, in the middle of a light polluted city, with an 8” SCT. As I was using an Alt-Az stand, the total integration time was for about an hour at most.
And I have a whole lot more atmosphere between me and these #galaxies relative to the #JWST!

This is very sad.
Do better, street light designers.

This is pretty cool - the UK's Society for Popular Astronomy are using one of my photos of comet C/2022 E3 (ETF) for their article on viewing the comet:

That was probably one of the clearest views of the milky way I have ever gotten to see. It was on top of Mount haleakalã. Normally, when I get photos of the milkyway, it's just a slight scare to the eyes. Up there, you could see it like you do in these photos.
