Why are some folks so upset over nuclear power?
Like... It's better than coal. And the major accidents that have occurred have been mostly because of terrible planning and corruption within the circles who constructed them.
Like... I honestly can't remember a single major accident happening in any late 90's nuclear power plants. I haven't checked obvs, but I think I'd remember if something like Chernobyl or Fukushima would've happened on a more modern facility.
Nuclear power is pretty safe, so long as you've learned from past mistakes, no?
Ever heard of Mighty Mouse?
From 1957 to 1959, Mighty Mouse was not only a #TV superhero animal, but also the #code name of a heavy water research #reactor at Argonne National Laboratory, with permission of CBS television... At a time when the commercial use of #AtomicEnergy was still a pipe dream, several reactors had fantasy names - my undisputed favorite is the "ARGONAUT" from 1957.
(Short best-of of my #archival #research at NARA Chicago; at #HSS conference tomorrow, looking forward).
