I find it fascinating that while you have the Newer Volcanic Province in Victoria and South Australia fed by the Australian East Hotspot there is one volcano in Queensland that has erupted within geological recent times (within 10k years) that seems to be an outlier.

I wonder if that could be an indication of some sort of rifting process or even a new plate boundary trying to wake up because there is no hotspot associated with it, it could have a similar mechanism to Mount Paektu in North Korea / Border of PRC however the Indo-Australian Plate is in the process or recent did break up through the Indian Ocean because of the difference in plate velocity due to friction from the Himalayan however when you look at Australia itself the plate does have a slight difference in vector due to probably the influence of what is happening in Aotearoa ("New Zealand") and that could be putting more strain further in the plate

This is just a random thought I am going to be looking into it as it is something I find fascinating and wonder if I will find anything on that Volcano's Origin

If anyone knows more and know any papers on the topic I'd like to know the doi so I can have a look
