One of Zip’s friends is having a birthday party at a laser tag place and when we got the invitation the parent told me that she understood if zip wouldn’t be able to cope with the laser tag for sensory reasons but that the birthday kid would still really like to invite him. She’s going to send me a time breakdown for their planned activities so we can choose which part(s) of the party zip would enjoy coming to.

@Supposenot They need time to recover. No child can learn if their mental health is shattered.

The goal of finding the ‘right college’ or ‘program’ is a dead end, if the child doesn’t want to do it. No matter their ‘potential’.

The Autistic Community is littered with former ‘Gifted Children’ who burnt out. I think that is a bigger risk right now, than finding the right college.

Hope it goes well xx

@Supposenot Hey, I'm Autistic and so are my husband and 3 kids and we’ve been where you are now.

I have heard this question before, from parents of and I wish someone had said this to me when I was in your position, so

If your child has had a rough time at school, the last thing they need is to be put back into an educational environment.

If they struggled for a year, then they need a year off. If it was 2 years, then they need 2 years off. At least.

@mepurfield @actuallyautistic I am the Inclusion Rep (I invented this role) for my school's this year and introduced an inclusion hour to our christmas bazaar; opened an hour before main bazaar, was quiet, no queues, visual plan etc. Huge success. I really believe that are the best people to tell non-autistic parents+teachers what need.
