If by any remote chance you're looking for something to do this weekend, can I recommend #HoneyFest at the #BargeInn, #Honeystreet, nr #Pewsey, #Wiltshire, #UK ? It's a great pub, with camping fields right by the #KennetAndAvon #Canal, and just over the ridge from the #megalithic wonderland of #Avebury. I'm playing Friday night, and can definitely recommend my friends the excellent #MrT&TheMinions and #DevilsDoorbell.

Outside the #NationalTrust cafΓ© at #Avebury #StoneCircle yesterday. The NT have always done nice things across their sites during #PrideMonth. Last year they had exceptionally nice NT #LGBT bunting and flags that would have looked nice in our ΓΌber #gay back window (we have a big #rainbow flag dangling there for all to see, which also helps to keep the room cool and shaded). π But alas, there were none going spare. π³οΈβπ

The Cove, Avebury.
Lots of theories about this, possibly the oldest part of the monument. There was another stone, making a symmetrical shape, but that was lost, early in the 18th century.
It may also have had an acoustic purpose - with the stones acting as an amplifier for a priest's invocation.

The Devil's Den on Fyfield Down to the east of #Avebury in #Wiltshire for #TombTuesday. The associated long barrow has long been ploughed out, but these 3 #StandingStones remain. Fyfield Down is an awesome place for a stroll. Sarsen stones litter the hillside, tempting the stone watcher to imagine #megalithic monuments everywhere.

β#Stonehenge is not to be missed, but the megalithic circle at #Avebury and the many surrounding ancient structures are far more interesting. It's easy to spend an entire day there exploring the many sites. Avebury is a complex of several megalithic structures of widely varying design, built over a period of many centuries.β
