Did you know goldfinches lose their gold colors in the winter? During the winter, the males lose their little black feathers on their heads, and most of their bright yellow feathers turn to a light brownish color. The females become mostly gray. I love how birds "puff up" when they are cold. They're increasing their insulation by trapping more air between the fluffed feathers. Nature is amazing. Sometimes, though, I like to think I feed them so much they got chubby. 🤣
