The bargain beauty! Today's #Bis song is Shopaholic from Social Dancing. Based on the band's comments during one of the listening parties a few years ago, it seems like maybe they don't like this one very much? I have to disagree - this song is so aggressively *happy*, and among the angry, defiant and satirical tracks on Social Dancing, it's nice to have one that's just "shopping is fun".

This is limited edition with a nice little sticker and a personal number! Today's #Bis song is This Is Fake DIY, and while it was the second song of theirs I heard, this was the song that I instantly fell in love with. When I first heard it I had no idea what the lyrics were about, and if I'm honest I still don't *completely* get it 27 years later but oh well. It's a classic, and if you happen to understand the significance of the ray guns, let me know

I used to be someone else... Today's #Bis song is The Who's Who of What, the final track from their newest album, Systems Music for Home Defence. It's dreamy, it's aggressively eighties and it's honestly my favorite closing track since A Portrait From Space.

Come on and be patronizing! Today's #Bis song is the excellent Boredom Could Be Good For You. It seems to be one of the lesser known singles, which is a shame as it really captures the essence of what's made the band so enduring. A confession: In the parallel universe where #PandorasTale is a successful media franchise, this is the song I imagine playing over establishing shots of the Helper Corporation.

Have you lost someone? Today's #Bis song is Mamelodi Sundown, originally released on the Fukd ID #5 EP. The Mamelodi Sundowns are a South African football team, and I'm not sure of the significance of this. This is probably the song I associate most with the band's heavily experimental period, shortly before their (temporary) breakup.

Believing in something can sometimes mean nothing... Today's #Bis song is the melancholy Dead Wrestlers, from the Music For a Stranger World mini-album. This is a powerful and angry song from what, in retrospect, was the band's most cynical period (and justifiably so). I was in my first year of college when this came out, stepping into a world that was harsh and confusing and fundamentally not what I'd imagined.

Funny how your life depends upon your waistline - that's Monstarr, today's #Bis song. The band's anthem against fat shaming is as relevant today as it ever was. It sounds great on New Transistor Heroes but honestly it's hard to compete with the raucous, megaphone-led live version.

We'll always have telecom... Today's #Bis song is Social D(ist)ancing, and it has a very weird history! Originally recorded as "Social Dancing" for Return to Central (and not, you know, the album called Social Dancing) it eventually surfaced as an instrumental version on the Anthology. The band later found this forgotten version with weirdly prescient lyrics and put it out as Social D(ist)ancing at the start of the pandemic.

You'll fall for me then fall down dead~ Today's #Bis song is a short and strange tale of revenge called I'll Get You Back, originally a Sweet Shop Avengerz B-side. It's one of several songs of the era to do interesting stuff with gender, giving Manda the lyrics: "Pretend I'm straight and get a wife". Fun fact: One time Steve Lamacq played a few seconds of this by accident. Okay I lied, that fact wasn't that fun.

I got better things to do than hang around with you and you~ That's right, today's #Bis song is Kandy Pop! The lead track of the Secret Vampire Soundtrack EP, it can also be found on the I Love Bis compilation, and other places probably. It's (arguably) their most famous song, and it's the first one I ever heard. It was so different from anything I'd heard before that I just sort of sat there in stunned silence for a while. I lived a sheltered life.
