How to Upgrade to KDE Plasma 5.27 on Kubuntu 22.10
Kubuntu 22.10 users can now upgrade to the latest KDE Plasma 5.27 release thanks to the ever-dependable Kubuntu backports PPA. As expected, Kubuntu developers put in the effort necessary to package the latest Plasma release for use atop Kubuntu 22.10. As the backports PPA is entirely opt-in (i.e. it’s not enabled by default) users must go out of their way to add it in order to receive the update. KDE Plasma 5.27 features a variety of cool things, the most notable being a(n incredibly cool) new window tiling experience, and major improvements to multi-monitor handling. There are also Flatpak setting :sys_more_orange:

KDE Plasma 5.25 Now Available for 22.04 LTS Users
If you’re running Kubuntu 22.04 LTS you can now upgrade to KDE Plasma 5.25, the latest stable release of the free, open source desktop environment. The Kubuntu team has made the update available to install from its backports PPA following requests from users. To be clear: this is not an automatic upgrade. The Kubuntu 22.04 LTS install image ships with KDE Plasma 5.24 by default, and that’s not changing. Instead, users who want to upgrade to Plasma 5.25 on Jammy can opt-in by adding the Kubuntu backports PPA and a new backports-extra PPA (technically the extra PPA can be used :sys_more_orange:

Ubuntu Brings Thunderbird 91 to Older Releases to Fix Security Flaw
Thunderbird 91 is being back-ported to Ubuntu 18.04 LTS and Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. A security vulnerability affecting the Thunderbird 78.x series both builds offer is being actively exploited in the wild. But as upstream support for Thunderbird 78.x soon ends the flaw is unlikely be patched soon. For an Ubuntu LTS release that’s a major issue. So to ensure its users are not affected, Ubuntu developers are backporting the latest Thunderbird 91 release (which is an extended support release, thankfully) to Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, and Ubuntu 21.04. This isn’t the first time Ubuntu has needed to do :sys_more_orange:
