Well the hint is. The snow capped mountains and the contrasty mood of the foothills gave it a Nepal Himalayas kind of vibe to me. But yah I was driving to Banff! Haha

Though a #fantasy #comic, The Kobold's Claim is deeply inspired by western gold rushes - especially the #Klondike rush of the late 1890s. The opening image, in fact, is based on a photo of prospectors in Chilkoot Pass! The forests and mountains are heavily inspired by #Banff. I joked in a recent interview that Canada was often used as a stand-in for a lot of other places in films, so why shouldn't it do the same in comics? http://kck.st/3sM9ouP

Peyto Lake is also known as Bear Lake for the obvious reason. We made a quick stop there on our way from Jasper to Banff. It was a bit of a climb to get to the viewing point but many people from the opposite direction who saw me huffing and puffing my way up there were so kind and supportive. "You're almost there!" "It's worth it!" And it was. What a gorgeous view.
