"“Maus” is a ruthlessly objective, but also entertaining, work of genius on a pivotal milestone in human history. It also illuminates the complexity of trauma’s effect on the children of survivors. “Maus” should therefore be required reading in every high school in every nation that is pleased to call itself civilized. It’s good for adults, too."

#BarbaraKay points out that in fact voting standards in #uspol elections are very loose [0], much more so than in other countries and that
"Lax standards for voting, trending ever more permissive, are at the very least conducive to the rise of conspiracy theories."
They should tighten the rules so that Americans trust the vote results, even in close elections.

I was listening in the car the other day to a #CBCRadio programme in which the guest was worrying about the downfall of US democracy, since Mr. Trump does not accept his electoral defeat. But as #BarbaraKay writes: "Hillary Clinton, whatever else one may say of her, is not unhinged, and she, too, has not stopped believing her 2016 election was stolen." John Kerry and Al Gore too believed they were the rightful winners.
#BarbaraKay 's solution is a Bloc Montréal, a political party that will stand up for the interests of the Métropole.
Well, I don't think the distinction is as clear as she suggests. The voters of Montréal are probably more left-wing than those off-Island. It would certainly be desirable to have anglophones not voting perpetually for the #qcliberals .

"Montreal and area — home to half of Quebec’s total population, but virtually all Quebec’s anglophones and most of her 80 ethnic minorities — is multilingual and cosmopolitan; the rest of Quebec (ROQ) is monolingual and parochial. Montreal’s economy is “brain-centred;” ROQ is resource- and agriculture-centred. Montreal’s vision of society is multicultural and individualistic; ROQ’s vision, continually reinforced by Quebec’s [...] elites, is assimilationist and collectivist."
"Tenenbom is puzzled by the reflexive denial of anti-Semitism he meets in the Jews he interviews. He asks (as Tuvia, a fellow Jew), and they freeze or insist there is none. Why? One Manchester man tells him they are afraid he will write about it and inspire more of it. A woman tells him, “Because it’s painful to admit that so many people hate you.”"

Wider access to assisted dying in Canada will be catastrophic for the disabled

#BarbaraKay argues that our society is proposing easier MAiD since we can't be bothered to provide proper care for the disabled, the ailing, the lonely, the dependent. We suggest their lives are burdens and that there is a way out...
