Just spotted that #Chaosium's #BasicRolePlaying gold book is now available in POD (softback) on DriveThruRPG. I already have @Newt_Newport's #OpenQuest and #SimpleQuest (but will admit to not having done more than glance through them yet). Is BRP worth adding to my library?

If I had a toolshed for my #TTRPG collection, #Chaosium's #BasicRoleplaying game would be on the shelf nearest the door.

It's a big gold book, an inch thick, with a pedigree going back to #StevePerrin and a little booklet of rules that came with boxes like #WorldsOfWonder.

When wrangling with a rule or idea, I'll sometimes think, "How does BRP do it?" Then I take a trip to the Big Gold Book. It's a touchstone. And a straightforward game.

Has anyone tried running any #Chaosium #BasicRolePlaying games (#CallOfCthulhu, #RuneQuest, etc) with #Mothership’s percentile dice mechanics? It seems like it wouldn’t be too hard an adaptation.

The changes would be:

1. Read a 00 result as zero, not 100.
2. Any roll of doubles (00, 11, 22, etc) is a critical result.
3. Use advantage/disadvantage (with extra tens dice) to model ease/difficulty.

Postworldgames jim pinto’s BloodWarrens series are currently systemless adventures for any fantasy Rpg. If I were to make stats for them, which system would make you more likely to buy it?

@jamesgraham #RuneQuest (or #BasicRoleplaying in the broader sense) is a powerhouse of a system: one of the oldest systems out there and yet still very good.

@rpgmatch @slyflourish That's an ever-shifting list, but common answers would be:

For storygames: #Spark, or #FateAccelerated Edition

For more traditional "crunchy" games: #HARP or #BasicRoleplaying.

For nostalgia reasons: #SpaceOpera or #PsiWorld.

But these change around as my mood does. Sometimes #Mythic shows up in the story game category instead, for example, or #Rolemaster shows up in place of HARP for traditional games, or #MazesAndMinotaurs in place of Basic Roleplaying. Etc. etc.

Now that I know that #MidwestGamefest is a thing and I missed it this year, I want to plan to see if I can run a RPG session next year. I just don't know what game system I would like to run. I can do #ICRPG or #StarsWithoutNumber or #WorldsWithoutNumber, #FATE or #GenesysRPG or #CypherSystem. Maybe even some other things like #BRP or #BasicRolePlaying or #GURPS or #HeroSystem with pre-made characters.

@rpgmatch I am always very happy to recommend #BarbariansofLemuria and/or #RuneQuest to absolutely anyone who looks like they need them.

BoL is pulp magazine sword & sorcery fantasy-- dead simple system, easy to reflavor for anything pulpy.

RQ is a very detailed, thorough fantasy game based on Bronze Age cultures and sociologically authentic religion. Based on the same #BasicRoleplaying d% system as Call of Cthulhu.
