A powerful typhoon barreled toward North Korea and was forecast to make landfall Thursday, threatening to inflict heavy damage on a nation already reeling from weeks of flooding and long-standing economic hardships.
The approach of Typhoon Bavi, packing winds of 100 miles per hour, follows torrential rain that caused severe floods and landslides across the Korean Peninsula earlier this month.
