Bea Wolf is amazing. It’s a child-friendly story, but it preserves the rhythm and the alliteration and a surprising amount of the language from actual Beowulf. I bought it intending to give it to my preteen niece but I think I’ll have to keep my copy and buy another one for her.

Read a bit more of Bea Wolf, by Weinersmith and Boulet. I could devour this in a bite, so addictive the prose, but I must not. I poke. I nibble. I savour. And so I picked it up for fresh pages.

I thought I was ready.

I was not.

One spread, one mighty splay of pages, depicting Mr. Grindle's family, laid me low. It was too good, and my mind was as blown as a windswept crag.

Mourn me not, fellows. Instead, follow me in my folly. Let us booktalk it in the afterlife, as heroes.

It arrived!

And it's SO GOOD! I've only read the prologue to building the feast...I mean treehouse. But every page is brilliant.

I can see myself burning through this in no time. And it makes such a great companion piece to the Headley translation that I read of the original book last year.
