I know this is no great insight, but some of Brian Wilson’s music with the Beach Boys is just transcendently beautiful. I think I appreciate this more and more as I get older. Genius is a much overused word, but in his case I think it is more than justified. Just lovely.

Intriguing dissonance in the #BeachBoys music where they

a) respond to libidinal/societal urge to pursue relationships, while

b) intuiting that marriage (perhaps/especially their parents' marriages) seem miserable

De lijst bestaat uit bands die mijn voorkeur genieten, en gewoon top zijn, sinds de #rocknroll zowat doorbrak bij jongeren dankzij #TheBeatles en andere #BeachBoys.
Vrouwen worden daarin dikwijls vergeten, en hun struggle om (ondanks dat hun muziek soms echt van top niveau is) een voet aan de grond te krijgen in het #mannenwereldje als vrouwen met een willetje.
We zullen merken dat veel bands #seksistisch benaderd worden en nog zoveel meer. Hopelijk heb je er iets aan.

The classic depressic Surf's Up album from 1971. Definitely my favourite #BeachBoys record (I Think :-), at least the one that made me really discover the boyz thanks to the album cover that spoke to my juvenile heavy metal soul).

Listening to the #BeachBoys album “Pet Sounds” this morning.
Everyone knows “Wouldn’t It Be Nice.” It’s a classic Beach Boys song.

I discovered some years go that my favorite song from the “Love Actually” soundtrack was from this album (“God Only Knows.”)

I only am now realizing that one of my favorite songs by The Pixies is in fact a Beach Boys cover! (“I Know There’s an Answer.”)

On this day, December 21st, in 1946: Carl Wilson was born in Hawthorne, Ca.

Great ambitions dominate the LP’s second half, as “Sloop John B” adapts Bahamian folk and “God Only Knows” finds astonishing beauty in dazzling key changes. A chamber pop gem that changed music forever.
