I was today years old when I learned Richard Hell’s classic #punk anthem “Blank Generation” was a cover (sort of), of Bob McFadden’s 1958 novelty song “Beat Generation.”

@georgetakei The original rainbow Pride flag had eight colors, and was inspired by the "Flag of the Races" (with five horizontal stripes: red, white, brown, yellow, and black), and popular among the World #peace and #Hippie movement of the 1960s. Think #AllenGinsberg, and the #BeatGeneration, too.

The final stripe at bottom is violet or purple, symbolizing #spirit. Turquoise is for #magic, and so on...

Of course... the flag has since evolved, but the ideas are still there.
