At least one #avantgarde #composer saw #Mahler's 2nd #Symphony as a seminal work prophesizing much (if not all) of #20thcenturymusic: indeed, the 3rd mvt of Luciano #Berio's #Sinfonia, for 8 amplified #voices and #orchestra, uses the Mahler's #scherzo as a template for an elaborate collage of musical and non-musical sources (including literary and/or mundane texts) that embarks on an exhilarating, emotional and sometimes hilarious roller-coaster ride through the century:
