We traverse North Uist from south to north and then cross another causeway, this time to the island of Berneray in the Sound of Harris. Berneray is a beguilingly attractive place, with settlement only on its eastern side. Its entire west coast forms an amazing three mile long beach of white sand. I'm not Scottish (well partly because my father was) or in the photography community, but where to start?

You will be spoilt for choice. Islands I've been to other than Skye, which all have fabulous views:
Mull
Iona
Arran
Lewis & Harris
Ulva
Kerrera
Lismore
Eigg
Rum
Muck

Then there are the mountains. Some spectacular views around Glencoe & Killin - best to climb a munro or two for the perfect view. ;)

Some of the ferries running routes around the Hebrides are no longer reliable and the ferry we were supposed to take from South Uist to the mainland is one of them. We were supposed to sail on Wednesday but after a few days of cancellations we decided to take a different route.
We drove up to Berneray instead and took the ferry to Leverburgh on the south of Harris. The route winds it's way through islets, it definitely felt like threading a needle at times.
