Linux Mint 21.2 Beta ISOs Have Entered Testing

It looks we’re getting super close to a Linux Mint 21.2 beta release. Development on the follow-up to last year’s Linux Mint 21.1 release was recently wound down, and a new version of the Cinnamon desktop tagged for release on GitHub. These moves indicated a beta release is approaching — and that’s now been confirmed on the Linux Mint community hub. As spotted by Neowin, Linux Mint 21.2 beta ISOs for the Cinnamon, Xfce, and MATE desktop editions are tagged ‘being testing’, and a pair of earlier builds marked as ‘rejected’. A brand new beta build of Linux Mint 21.1 “Vera” is available to download. Linux Mint 21.1 beta builds are up on the Linux Mint servers for download, though the milestone is yet to be “officially” announced. This beta is in advance of a planned stable release later this month. As updates go this isn’t the biggest one Mint has put out. It’s more of a collection of iterative improvements rather than a mass of major new ones. At the heart of this update is Cinnamon 5.6. I'm on #Signal #beta and gave a quick spin to the stories. Pretty straightforward. Good set of options, to share the stories with select set of people, groups or all in the contacts etc..
Very similar to whatsapp's status feature. Nothing spectacular..

Is it a much required feature? I don't think.. but people who are addicted to putting status on whatsapp might find this helpful to move on to Signal.

Ubuntu Devs Finally Fix Frustrating Firefox Snap Flaw

Ubuntu’s beleaguered Firefox Snap package is tackling another of longstanding criticism of it, namely its lack of native messaging support. It’s this fancy-sounding feature that allows Firefox add-ons to “exchange messages with a native application, installed on the user’s computer”. This enables things like desktop password managers to function as expected in the browser. But at last there’s change ahoy. In a short update on the Snapcraft forum Ubuntu developer Olivier Tilloy says integration of a new WebExtensions XDG portal with the latest beta builds of Mozilla Firefox is ready for wider testing via the Snap store. Linux Mint 21 beta is available to download. The milestone is here to help intrepid bug hunters stress-test the next version of the hugely popular Linux distro, which is based on the latest Ubuntu 22.04 LTS release. Linux Mint 21 includes a swathe of refreshed components throughout its stack (mostly inherited from Ubuntu) including the Linux kernel 5.15 point release, refreshed graphics drivers, and lower-level tooling and developer library updates. Cinnamon 5.4 is installed as the default desktop environment.
