@daihard maybe some #bikeParking / #BikeTheft policy wonks or #BikeTooter can cite studies, but just offhand: #BikeValet, staples/corrals with better lighting/visibility (& follow-up review theft report locations for changes), make it easy to get a #BikeHangar in a curb space (or lockers, pods, etc), register at point of sale / make sure people know their serial number, maintain decent infrastructure so more people bike, build housing (a lot of it), and give people bikes, locks, and money #UBI.

But bike theft is such a problem here. My local bike shop was broken into this week with someone SAWING a neighbouring wall open, crawling through, and lifting two bikes and accessories.

I've been thinking about it and bike theft really is a major barrier to people picking up cycling. At least around where I live, the infrastructure has gotten a lot better in the last 20 years. I think addressing bike theft is now becoming the most pressing issue.
