Over on the #BirdShite, the Fox person is giving it some welly, from his summer holiday wherever that is, surely it can't be abroad. Good heavens, he's in Greece. Isn't that in the EU? I suppose they can't be persuaded to hang on to him for a couple of decades?

That all the dodgy, bot, incitive shouters from the #Birdshite jumped there.

For better or worse, I'm starting to take it for granted now that my day will get more interesting the instant I check in on #mastodon

It's automatic that I'll meet someone fascinating or catch a great insight. For sure I'll see great photography and cool pics of funghi or otters or some part of the planet I wish I was visiting right there and then.

The world needs an information crossroads. It cannot be held in private hands (a la #birdshite). It cannot be run by algorithms. Each and every person in the #fediverse must be their own #algorithm.

If the news media and content creators want us to make ourselves available to them, they must demonstrate their value to us - rather than shove themselves down our throats (take it or leave it). Is the Fediverse a harder place to sell things? Yeah. Because you have to sell yourself one person at a time.

It really does level the playing field in significant ways.

And the best part remains - to this day, since joining Mastodon - I have never experienced the agita and anger with which I approached #twitter.

That place made me crazy. This place makes me smile. I'll take that every single day of every single week.

On a regular basis, I sign on to #mastodon and instantly get detoured.

Back on #birdshite, I got detoured all the time - because I was being triggered by the #algorithms. Rarely if ever was I detoured by delight.

This morning, I got detoured by a fascinating article about how science has figured out they can measure Neanderthal lifespans - and even see life events - in the cementum left behind on Neanderthal teeth.

In the old days, I'd be totally enraged by now.

Here in the #fediverse, I'm actually smarter. Well, I know stuff now I didn't know before.

I completely agree with my friend JohnW - the caliber of the back-and-forth here on #mastodon is vastly superior to the algorithmed rage back on #BirdShite

Here in the algorithm-free #fediverse (where makes each of us is our own algorithm!), rage doesn't win arguments (though passion can). Reason rules this roost. So does respect.

I’d also add that this is a feature, not a bug. The #birdshite search function was regularly used by trolls to find their victims. If you want to discuss something and have it sent to your followers and network, but *not* have to searchable, don’t use a hashtag.
