Came across these wild turkeys at the local park yesterday poking around the ball field. The two youngsters were definitely in that awkward teen phase.
I was most amused when the mother wandered into the dugout so it looked like the young one was visiting her in prison through the chain-link fence. (She escaped and they made their getaway shortly thereafter.)

Look at this guy! Turning his head changes how the light hits its neck feathers, making them appear to change color. It could not not share this!

I was completely out so I put out some plain oats in the meantime so there was *something*. Then I saw it was going to rain and I felt really bad for not being stocked! But around 5am, I woke up with an epiphany remembering that I had put a large ziploc bag of safflower seed in my car in case I ever needed it while out and about. I used up most of it feeding a flock of turkeys that was protecting a limping hen a month ago but there was still some left. So yes, I went out in the rain before the sun rose to grab a small amount of seed for my birds before going back to sleep. And y’know what? I slept better having done so.

Almost missed this beauty as I was driving around a nearby municipal southeast Michigan airport.
A few minutes later, the Red-tailed Hawk with prey in its talons, took off in flight over one of the airport buildings.

"Our best day so far with 290 birds and ten different species.
The broad-wings led the way with ninety-seven, although the biggest kettle we saw was thirteen birds.
Most were flying at nosebleed heights, as they are wont to do."
