Alsarah, or Sarah Mohamed Abunama-Elgadi, is a Sudanese-American singer/song writer and part of THE NILE PROJECT which uses music and song from cultures who live adjacent to the Nile River to teach about water sustainability. I've been on the road this week so haven't been able to jump on to much. Here's a quick link to Viviane Chidid, one of the pop Queens of Senegal, and sister-in-law to Youssou N'Dourt. He has been suffering from Alzheimer's since about 2018. Some may remember him from a PBS series years ago where he would have white people role play a racist incident. Sorry I missed y’all last week , but went to the beach. Back on track – this wee’s pic is the last one from Dhow Countries Music Academy. It’s not Taarab, but it’s one of the bands they support. The artist is called Tofa Boy. He plays the flute, a ukelele (?) and he sings. In the video he is showing rural scenes while he is seated on a donkey that include landscape and a couple of working folks. 1/2

She ends up pregnant and he can’t be bothered with that. The band sings her tale in a variety of settings. They are dressed in a fascinating array of colorful clothing.
