Kwanzaa | History, Traditions, Dates, Symbols, & Facts | Britannica
Todays #BlackHistoryEveryDay post is about a movement not just a person. With it coming up to Christmas, it’s important to look at alternative traditions. Today we look at Kwanzaa.
I will post Three posts today, about Kwanzaa and the man who created it Maulana Karenga.
To start, a quick summary about the history of Kwanzaa.
Henrietta Lacks: science must right a historical wrong
Todays #BlackPioneer is Henrietta Lack, a woman who’s cells HeLa cells has pioneered groundbreaking treatments from cancer, to IVF.
Her cells were taken and used without her consent, so her family continued the fight to make sure nothing like that would happen in scientific research again, although they are grateful that so much good came from it. #BlackHistoryEveryDay

Today’s pioneer is Benjamin Banneker, inventor, and scientist. Benjamin not only helped to save Washington by memorising the plans, he built an irrigation system, wooden clock and is the founder of the Almanac. Banneker was highly intelligent and self taught. He’s my pioneer today because he never gave up. #BlackHistoryEveryDay #BlackMastodon #BlackTwitter

Sojourner Truth - Quotes, Facts & Speech - HISTORY
I’ve not shared pioneers for a while, so on my first #BlackFriday post, it’s only fitting to share with you one of my inspirations Sojourner Truth. Famous abolitionist and champion of human rights, many will know her famous words “Ain’t I a woman”, which is a sentiment that many BIPOC, especially black women still are made to feel today. #BlackHistoryEveryDay #BlackMastodon
