Well by % popular vote #blair got 43.4% in 1997 - but #labour won 418 seats. In 2001 that dropped to 40.7% and 412 seats

In 2015 #corbyn got 40% of the popular vote but just 262 seats - in 2019 just 32.1% and 202 seats - the nadir of labour results

The difference between being a success and a failure is in such numbers
